a super-quick card

I love, love, LOVE it when I am able to design a card AND put it together in under 10 minutes!  This is an example of such a card. I use this 'template' often - just use one of Stampin' Up!'s great designer series papers on the front of the card, add a strip of cardstock or piece of ribbon across the front and then add a sentiment. Voila!  

This card is made using the new Twitterpated dsp, found in the Occasions Mini Catalog. To jazz it up a bit, I added a few of the teeny pearl jewels in the center of the flowers on the dsp.

OK, I've come to a HUGE realization this past weekend. The left side of my brain and the right side of my brain do not work well together. I can either be creative or I can be all business, but I cannot be both at the same time. I'm either stamping and creating and then forgetting to do anything with what I've created OR I'm busy worrying about what needs to be stamped or created. You know what I mean? I've been busy creating tons of cards but then I forget to post them on here or forget to send them out in the mail to whomever they are supposed to go to! Ugh - it is so frustrating.

These two cards are a fine case in point. I remembered to check out last weeks sketch over on the Mojo Monday Blog, but then I forgot to put them on here! Duh. These are both using colors and/or paper found in the 'Twitterpated" designer series paper.

an emotional project

Hello-

As you know, I'm very active in my kids' lives (probably TOO active!) and I spend quite a bit of time at the elementary school that two of my children still attend.  My youngest daughter is in 2nd grade this year and has had a FABULOUS student teacher since the very first day, last September.  Last Friday was this teacher's last day with my daughter's class, as it is time for her to move on with her own teaching career, and she will be very missed.  The class wanted to give her a gift from everyone that would help her remember her days with them while providing her with a little wisdom for future classes, so I made up this little "lunch-book" for her.'

A few years ago, making up little books inside altoid tins were all the rage and that is where I pulled the inspiration from for this project.  With 22 kids in the class, it was pretty long, so it was impossible to photograph in all of its entirety, but I think you'll get the idea.  Although I used current colors (riding hood red, marina mist and so saffron) and current ribbon (black striped 1-1/4"), the stamps are from a retired set from years ago.

Once the box is opened, this VERY long "book" opens up.  I put a photo of the whole class, some famous quotes (by Ms. Dalbec herself), and a photo and word of wisdom from each student.

 

This is a close-up of Payton's photo and word of wisdom - each child was supposed to tell Ms. Dalbec why they loved her so much.

a Sweet Shop taste

Hello-

Here is a sample using products from the 'Sweet Shop' product suite, found in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  Since I have three girls, I can find TONS of uses for all of these products, but even if you don't have young children anymore, you can still have lots of fun with it too!  LOVE IT, LOVE IT!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I'm super-excited about the current Occasions Mini Catalog and the upcoming Sale-a-Bration catalog and have planned several events around them both.  Check out my Stampin' Up! website for the specifics on rsvp deadlines and costs, but here are the basics.

    SALE-A-BRATION STAMP-A-STACK - Friday, January 27th from 6pm - 8pm.  Create     six cards using the designer series paper from this years sale-a-bration catalog.

    'SWEET SHOP' CLASS - Tuesday, February 21st from 6pm - 8pm.  Receive a set of     'sweet shop' stickers and all of the products necessary to complete six fun projects.

    OCCASIONS MINI BIG SHOT STAMP CAMP - Saturday, March 10th from 9am -     11:30 am.  Create six projects using various Big Shot products from the Occasions     Mini catalog.

A closer look

Here is a close-up of the cards that I showed you yesterday.  My apologies for the rather wonky pictures -- I have a new camera and am still learning about lighting and such.  My style of stamping is typically pretty clean and simple, so I wasn't so sure about this paper when I saw it in the sale-a-bration catalog, but after I saw it in person, I was in love!  It really is gorgeous and very easy to work with!  

As kind of a side-note, for those of you who know my kids, can you guess which one chose which card to use as their thank you?  In fact, the more I think about it, that actually sounds like a good contest...the first person to tell me which girl chose which thank you card, will win a prize!  Email me with your thoughts!

a few thank you cards

It's that time of year again.  You know, the 'thank-you-writing' time of year. As much as my girls LOVE receiving Christmas gifts, they are a little less than thrilled with writing the thank you's afterward. In fact, you could possibly compare my middle child writing her thank you's to pulling teeth without medication. Even with the squirming in her chair, the occasional tear and a tremendous amount of of whining, she does get them done, however! We usually make them together, but this year I was a little selfish and took some "me" time to work on them myself. These were made with products from the Occasions Mini Catalog and the upcoming SAB catalog (which begins January 24).
